Russell Don Nash 1935-2008

  

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our long time Vice-President Emeritus Russ Nash. Russ passed away peacefully at his home in Mandeville surrounded by his family on June 12, 2008.

Russell Don Nash passed away at his home on June 12, 2008 at the age of 72, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Russ was the beloved husband of Joycelyn Lambert Nash for 29 years, loving father of Russell Kevin Nash of Jefferson, LA; Lacy Nash Elliot and her husband Kearby of Grand Saline, TX; Jeffrey Michael Florio and wife Andrea of Birmingham, AL and proud grandfather of Kolby, Kirk, Clara and Keeley Elliott and Baileigh and Emily Florio. He was preceded in death by his parents Oren Russell Nash and Clara bit Nash. He is survived by his siblings G. Annette Nash Wells, Michael H. Nash and Amber Arlowe Nash, and many meces and nephews.

A native of Oklahoma, Russ was a graduate of Pawhuska High School and Oklahoma A&M / Oklahoma State University. He began his career as a geophysicist with Amoco and retired from The Louisiana Land and Exploration Company. He was a lifetime member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He was President of the Southeastern Geophysical Society and served on the Board of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. Until his illness, he served on the board of The Greater Mandeville Seafood Festival. He was a kind, loving and giving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by all.

Families and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life to be held at St. Anselm Catholic Church in Madisonville, LA on Monday, the 16th of June at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment to follow at St. Joseph's Abbey, 75376 River Road, Saint Benedict, LA 70457.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials to be made to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at 39 Starbrush Circle, Covington, LA 70433; Hospice of St. Tammany at 4410 Hwy 22, Mandeville, LA 70471; or to the Building Fund for the New Church at St. Anselm, 306 St. Mary Street, Madisonville, LA 70447.
